World's lowest car!

A miniature motor measuring just 45.2cm (17.79in) has entered the Guinness Book of Records as the world's lowest roadworthy car.

The cramped car's official size was confirmed by officials who took measurements from the ground to highest part of the vehicle to confirm the new world record.

It was created by students and staff of The Automobile Engineering Course of Okayama Sanyo High School in Asakuchi, Japan.

Resembling a toy car, the vehicle is legal to drive on the road in Japan, although tackling speed bumps is likely to be an issue.

The car, dubbed Mirai (meaning future), is powered by six batteries produced by Japan's CQ motors.

While the chassis, body, suspension, steering system, lights, seat and all other parts were developed and created at the forward-thinking high school.

Mirai measures just 45.2cm (17.79 in)

Previous ambitious projects on the course have included building an amphibious car and a huge glider plane.

The new vehicle beat a previous record set by Britain's Perry Watkins in 2009, who built his car from an old Postman Pat children's ride.

Okayama Sanyo High School's record features in the 57th version edition of the best-selling record book which was launched earlier this month.
