Ferrari Four-Wheel-Drive (4WD)

It’s Forza Ferrari! Meet the FF, Ferrari’s replacement for the 612 Scaglietti. Not only is the newcomer an all-new model, it’s also the company’s most powerful four-seater ever, as well as its first ever four-wheel-drive car.

The FF - an acronym for Ferrari Four (four seats and four-wheel drive) – is described by Ferrari as a car that “represents not so much an evolution as a true revolution”.

And that includes an all-new naturally aspirated 6.3-litre V12 with direct injection. The unit produces 651bhp at 8,000rpm and an impressive 683Nm at 6,000rpm. Performance is suitably rapid, with 0-62mph taking 3.7 seconds, and a top speed of 208mph. The 612 managed the sprint in four seconds and hit 199mph flat out.

Drive is fed via a transaxle-mounted dual-clutch F1 gearbox, but the big news is the FF’s patented four-wheel-drive system. Called 4RM, Ferrari claims the system weighs 50 per cent less than a conventional all-wheel drive transmission, and helps to maintain a 47:53 weight distribution, although is yet to detail whether the system features conventional driveshafts or uses electric motors to power the front wheels.

The FF’s drivetrain is integrated with the car’s electronic dynamic control systems, and Ferrari claims it “delivers record levels of performance on all terrains and in all conditions”.

Despite the addition of four-wheel drive, the FF weighs 1,790kg – 50kg less than its predecessor. That also helps curb fuel consumption, with the FF returning 18.3mpg and 360g/km when specced with the HELE stop-start system, down from 13.8mpg and 470g/km respectively.

Completing the FF’s dynamic package, is Ferrari’s latest SCM3 adaptive dampers and Brembo’s new carbon-ceramic brakes.

As for the striking design, the FF was penned by Pininfarina, under the guidance of Ferrari’s styling chief Flavio Manzoni. It breaks with tradition by offering a unique two-door hatchback. The newcomer measures 4,907mm long, 1,953mm wide and 1,374mm high, making it longer, but narrower and taller than the 612.

Ferrari estate brakes with tradition

Ferrari turns practical? That’s the
shock news from Maranello, where a shooting brake concept based on the 612 Scaglietti is being prepared for
the Geneva Motor Show in March.

612 Scaglietti

The first result from a new, in-house styling team, the estate has been overseen by Fiat Group design boss and ex-Pininfarina head Lorenzo Ramaciotti. Although its name has not yet been confirmed, the two-door, V12 concept has been produced for two reasons: to see how far Ferrari can stretch its brand away from its traditional supercars, and to give the 612 Scaglietti a fitting send-off as the four-seat super coupé, launched in 2004, nears the end of its run.

“We know there can never be a Ferrari SUV,” one source insisted. “But we would like to find out what we can put the marque’s DNA into and still have it accepted as a Ferrari.” The replacement for the 612 Scaglietti is also imminent. Codenamed F151, the new two-door coupĂ© will join Ferrari’s GranTurismo line-up to sit alongside the California, but it will be priced at around £230,000 – considerably more than the £143,870 currently charged for the drop-top.

612 Scaglietti

Ferrari sources have described the forthcoming car as “more versatile”, hence why the designers are testing the water with this radical and roomier concept version of its predecessor. With the firm also ruling out a four-door saloon earlier this year, a fastback design for the next-generation GT makes the most sense.

Despite its revolutionary looks, the 612 Scaglietti concept car isn’t the first Ferrari wagon. The company has built plenty of one-offs for wealthy Middle Eastern and Asian buyers, including a 456 GT-based Pininfarina-bodied shooting brake in the early Nineties for the Sultan of Brunei.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi

Ferrari is promising all the fun of the fare at its new Abu Dhabi theme park. Located on Yas Island, along with the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 track, the attraction will become the largest indoor theme park in the world when it opens on 28th October.

The 200,000-square-metre red roof houses more than 20 rides, including the four dimensional Speed of Magic journey and the Formula Rossa rollercoaster which will hit speeds of up to 150mph.

Other highlights incude Made in Maranello, which offers a virtual tour of the Ferrari factory, the Fiorano GT Challenge, which is a unique duelling rollercoaster with Ferrari F430 Spiders; and the Bell’Italia – a miniature recreation of Italy’s most famous locations, including Portofino and the Amalfi Coast, the Monza racetrack, the Colosseum in Rome, Venice and Maranello.

Laferrari First Hybrid Ferrari

Ferrari has taken wraps off their highly anticipated supercar naming it as 'Laferrari'. With just 499 production vehicles to be built, the limited-series automobile combines formula one performance and ustainability with its first ever hybrid powertrain - a HY-KERS system that delivers 963 horsepower from its V12 engine and its two electric motors.

Equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch gear box EF1-trac F1 electronic traction control system, 'Laferrari' is capable of reaching speeds over 350 km/h - launching 0-100 km/h in less than 3 seconds and 0-200 km/h in under 7 seconds, making it the fastest road car in the company’s long history.

To boost efficiency, sports active aerodynamic devices front (diffusers and guide vane on the underbody) and rear (diffusers and rear spoiler) generate down force when needed without compromising the car’s overall drag coefficient - deploying automatically on the basis of a number of different performance parameters which are monitored in real time by the car’s dynamic vehicle controls.

Developed by Flavio Manzoni's design team, 'Laferrari’s' styling works in close collaboration with the engineers to emphasize and retain close links to the marque’s tradition - and to that of the Ferrari Enzo predecessor.

Its side profile sees a sharp, downward-sloping nose and a low hood highlighting its muscular wheel arches, a clear reflection to the forms found in the late-1960s Ferrari sports prototypes.

Fake Ferrari actually a BICYCLE!

Pimp my cycle ride: Beautiful Ferrari actually a bike!

It's a vehicle that wouldn't look out of place in a plush car showroom, but this is one Ferrari which relies on pedal power over horse power.

Step aside Michael Schumacher! Hello Lance Armstrong!

With its sleek design, blood red paintwork and bespoke features, the Fahrradi Farfall FFX looks like a next generation Ferrari supercar.

VIDEO: The Fahrradi Farfall FFX is unveiled.

Based on the Italian sports car manufacturer's £1million track-only Ferrari FXX, it took Austrian artist Hannes Langeder a year to create.

The designer shot to fame in 2010 after a lightweight Porsche he created was driven by motor expert Richard Hammond on Top Gear.

The superbike Ferrari under construction.

The vehicle's name was inspired from the Italian for butterfly after it was described by one expert as moving 'silently and with the weightless elegance of a butterfly'.

Made from a combination of plastic and light-weight steel, the unique bicycle weighs just 100kg and is steered using pedals which control 11 different gears.

Langeder even claims the vehicle actually lifts off the ground when ridden by a fast enough cyclist.

The eco-friendly car is currently on display at an automotive exhibition in Austria where it is considered road-safe.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

This is the new 2012 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta - the most powerful road car ever to wear the prancing horse badge, thanks to a 545kW, 6.3-litre V12 engine.

Making its debut at next week's Geneva motor show, the front-engined, rear-drive two-seater has a striking aluminium body that mixes cues from the current 599 with a grille and headlight combination inspired by the FF.

It's more compact than its predecessor, at 4.62m long. That means it is 47mm shorter than before, as well as being 20mm narrower and 63mm lower. Thanks to an all-new aluminium spaceframe chassis, it also weighs 70kg less, tipping the scales at just 1525kg in dry trim.

Expertise gained from Formula One and the 599 XX has been applied to the body, too. The sweep running from the top of the wing is not just for show. Called the Aero Bridge, it channels air away from the bonnet to reduce drag.

In addition, the F12's Active Brake Cooling system uses flaps in the front wing edges which open at speed to cool the carbon-ceramic brake discs.

At the top of the rear wing is a vent. Although it hasn't been confirmed, it is thought that a fan is located in the rear wing, which draws air through the vent to the rear, creating an F1-style blown diffuser.

All these tweaks reduce the aero Cd drag coefficient to just 0.299, while the shape produces real downforce - 123kg at 200km/h, up 76 per cent on the 599 GTB.

Together with a lower overall weight and extra power, the F12 Berlinetta is enormously fast. As well as producing 545kW at 8500rpm - up 88kW on the 599 GTB - it has 690Nm of torque, an increase of 83Nm, which Ferrari claims is available from 2500rpm through to the 8700rpm redline.

Hooked up to a development of the seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox in the FF and California, with shortened ratios, the F12 Berlinetta does 0-100km/h in 3.1 seconds, with a top speed of 340km/h. It can also accelerate from 0-200km/h in just 8.5 seconds.

With lower weight, better aerodynamics and stop-start, it's also more efficient than the old 599 GTB, claiming 15 litres/100km, up from 17.8 litres/100km, with CO2 emissions of 350g/km, down from 415g/km.

Standard equipment includes the latest evolution of Ferrari's magnetic damping system, along with an electronic differential. As a result of the lighter weight and increased power, Ferrari says the F12 Berlinetta can lap the Fiorano circuit in just one minute 23 seconds, making it faster than any other Ferrari road car.

The cabin is inspired by the FF. Ferrari says it incorporates all-new leather, plus new carbon fibre and aluminium air vents. Most of the car's controls are located on the steering wheel. It should be reasonably practical, too, with a hatchback tailgate and space behind the rear seats for luggage.
